"Phoon" is a family name established more than three thousand years ago. During "Chau" Dynasty, emperor "Chau Mun Wong" conferred a piece of land called "Patt" to his 15th son who then was called "Patt Koong". "Patt" is situated at the northern part of today's "Ham Yong" of "Siaan" in China. Later, "Patt Koong" conferred to his 4th son "Kwai Suen Koong" a piece of land in "Hoo Nam" called "Phoon" which is situated in "Weng Yeong" area of "Log Yeong" district of China.
It was the tradition of olden days that people normally took the name of the place they owned to be their family name. Hence, this family branch of "Chau Mun Wong" headed by "Kwai Suen Koong" adopted "Phoon" as their family name in the year BC 1122.
Since "Chau Mun Wong" was the direct descendant of the first emperor "Wang Tee", the Phoons are naturally the descendants of "Wang Tee". The "Phoon" family normally names their home as "Weng Yeong" .
